5 Top Tips To Save Water And Help The Planet
We’re so fortunate that we have fresh water at our fingertips. In this day and age so many of us take this for granted. But there are many people across the world who aren’t in such a privileged position. Water is a precious resource and should treated as such. Here are some great tips which will help conserve water.
Tip One: Use Leftover Cooking Water
When we make pasta or steam vegetables, the water used to cook each becomes reusable and can be used in soups. Or allow it to cool and use it on your plants in the garden.
Tip Two: Fix Leaky Taps Immediately
Drip, drip, drip. How often have you been bugged by the incessant drip of a leaky tap? Get it dealt with right away! One dripping tap can waste gallons of water quickly.
Tip Three: Fill The Dishwasher All The Way Before Running
When washing dishes, only run the dishwasher when it is full. This way, you conserve water by not running the dishwasher until it is full. Fill the dishwasher over the course of the day. When it’s full, let it run overnight and empty it in the morning. That way all the dishes are clean for the start of the day.
Tip Four: Take Shorter Showers
An average shower is typically 8-10 minutes, but we don’t need the water to run for that whole time. You can turn it off while you lather up or while you shampoo your hair. Then just put the water back on so you can rinse off.
Tip Five: Catch Rain Water For Watering Plants
One successful way to conserve water and live more sustainably is by catching rainwater. Put a container in your garden and catch the water when it rains. You can use this for watering plants or other purposes that doesn’t require clean drinking water.
